CLE: The ABCs of Disability Applications

  • Daughters Of Charity Health Center 3201 South Carrollton Avenue New Orleans, LA, 70118 United States (map)

As part of the new Medical-Legal Partnership with Southeast Louisiana Legal Services (SLLS) and the Daughters of Charity Health Centers, The Pro Bono Project will co-sponsor a CLE on "The ABCs of Disability Applications" on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the Daughters of Charity Health Center at 3201 S. Carrollton Avenue in the Community Education Room, 3rd Floor. CLE credit hours: 1.5.

Low-income, disabled patients greatly benefit from acquiring income stability through public benefits such as Social Security Supplemental Security Income or Disability Insurance. The application process for these benefits can be confusing and tedious for these patients. Legal volunteers can assist patients with the application process to help them create a more complete and persuasive application, and in turn, increase the patients’ chances of receiving benefits.

The training will include a brief overview of Social Security's disability determination followed by strategies for helping someone apply.
