The free three hour CLE will train attorneys how to take on a SIJS case, and all participants will leave with useful resources and forms. The highlight of the CLE will be a roundtable discussion with Louisiana practitioners on how different courts in Louisiana are handling these issues. We will discuss best practices in both state and immigration court and provide tips and tricks for handling these matters.

The American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Litigation Children's Rights Litigation Committee is sponsoring a CLE in conjunction with their section meeting in New Orleans this April.
Unaccompanied children are represented by an attorney in only about one-third (32%) of 63,721 cases pending in Immigration Court as of October 31, 2014. According to the latest data, legal representation makes a critical difference and allows youth with viable legal claims to present them in court.

A recent article in Time Magazine highlighted the crisis facing the civil justice system in metro New Orleans and Louisiana regarding the influx of children and young adults taking refuge in the United State from violence, abuse and abandonment in their home country. The SIJS CLE, presented by immigration law firm Ware|Gasparian, on September 4, 2014 will address this issue and provide training and information on handling these cases. The Pro Bono Project is encouraging its volunteers to attend. Six (6) CLE credit hours.
