The Pro Bono Project is pleased to sponsor this free, 2-hour in-person CLE designed to familiarize non-tax attorneys with tax laws that affect low-income people. Attendees will receive an overview of federal tax issues common to clients seeking legal aid, including:
Earned Income Tax Credit and Dependency Issues
Identity Theft and Tax Preparer Fraud
Innocent and Injured Spouse Relief
Consumer Related Tax Issues
IRS Collections Procedures and Collection Alternatives
Louisiana State Income Tax issues
A light lunch will be served, and attendees will receive a copy of the presentation as well as handouts with resource materials.
Attendees will learn about various pro bono opportunities, and will be asked to register as a volunteer with The Pro Bono Project. The Pro Bono Project’s volunteers are covered by our malpractice insurance and are eligible for CLE credit for their pro bono work (1 CLE per 5 hours of volunteering, up to 3 CLE credits per year). Join us and learn new skills while helping the community!
