As part of Americorps, Louisiana Delta Service Corps aims to create positive change in communities throughout the state. By partnering young leaders with organizations with a similar mission - to improve the lives and well-being of others through thoughtful and sustainable change – they can tackle many of the issues facing the underserved populations across Louisiana.
Here at The Pro Bono Project, our mission is similar and focused – we aim to strengthen and move communities forward by providing free civil legal aid to those in need. As such, it is no surprise that we decided to host one of these young leaders for the year to help us accomplish our goals.
Please join us in offering a warm welcome to our new Louisiana Delta Service Corps member, Amanda Beck!
Amanda arrived at The Pro Bono Project in September, just in time to experience The Justice For All Ball. Born and raised in Norwood, New Jersey, she came to New Orleans in 2013 to attend college at Tulane University. Amanda graduated this past May with honors, earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in International Relations/Political Science and Public Policy.
“I wanted to use my skills, enthusiasm, and drive to make a positive impact on the community I now call home,” said Amanda. She applied to the Americorps/Louisiana Delta Service Corps program and was selected by The Project from among several candidates.
“We are thrilled to have Amanda as part of our staff. Her primary focus is to streamline the Self-Help Resource Center (SHRC) located at the 24th Judicial District Court in Gretna. She will recruit and coordinate volunteers for the SHRC while working to improve services for the benefit of the community,” explained Executive Director, Jennifer Rizzo-Choi.
With a desire to continue her education, Amanda’s year of service at The Pro Bono Project will provide her with an invaluable experience. She looks forward to interfacing with all members of the community while also learning the ins-and-outs of providing civil legal aid.
