Local Artist Christy Boutte To Unveil "Lady Justice"

The Pro Bono Project is pleased to announce that local artist Christy Boutte will unveil her portrait of “Lady Justice” on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at Kendra Scott, 5757 Magazine Street, New Orleans, LA.

Each year, The Pro Bono Project commissions an artist to offer his or her creative and original portrayal of Lady Justice. The artwork is featured on the invitation for The Project’s Annual Justice For All Ball and is auctioned off at the gala.   Previous artists commissioned include Sharika Mahdi, Gustave Blache III, Amy Centola, Garland Robinette, and Terrance Osborne.

Christy Boutte has created art professionally for the past 15 years.  A childhood illness led to her profound hearing loss at the age of one, and many observers of her work attribute her rapid artistic maturity to this loss of hearing and the many obstacles she has had to overcome.  Christy works with traditional paint, but also includes metallics, gold leaf, and Italian glass beads.  She has created posters for the French Quarter Festival, International Tarpon Rodeo, New Orleans Wine and Food Experience, Bayou Road Balloon Festival, Jean Lafitte Seafood Festival, and Gretna Heritage Festival. She displays her work at her gallery, Art by Christy, on Lafayette Street in Gretna.

“We are delighted that Christy created our 31st anniversary painting.  Christy’s work – from LSU tigers and the fleur de lis to pelicans and Mardi Gras bead trees - celebrates the very best of our community.  Her portrayal of Lady Justice is a moving tribute to the mission of The Pro Bono Project.  It also is a nod to the Justice For All Ball’s new location at Mardi Gras World’s Grand Oaks Mansion.  We can’t wait to showcase this beautiful painting,” says Executive Director C.C. Kahr.

“The funds we raise through the Justice For All Ball including the auctioning off of Christy’s ‘Lady Justice’ are a critical factor in our on-going work of making certain access to justice is available for those in need within our community. In the first six months of 2019, we continue to get requests to service new populations. We could not provide our services without the assistance of the law firms, solo practitioners, and many other professionals who give their time, talent and funds to The Project," explains Ms. Kahr.

The unveiling of Christy Boutte’s “Lady Justice” will be held at a Pro Bono Project fundraiser at Kendra Scott on Thursday, June 27, 2019. A part of Kendra Scott’s community program, twenty percent of all purchases between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. will go directly to The Pro Bono Project.   The original artwork will be auctioned off at the 31st Annual Justice For All Ball on September 20, 2019.
