The Backstory

There’s always a story behind the story. As people have submitted, or we’ve created stories for Tales of the Ball, we are lucky enough to often know the backstory – the background for how a particular story told came to be.

Every Justice For All Ball has a backstory.

For the most part, only those who have worked behind the scenes from the first day of planning until the stroke of midnight on the evening of the Ball, and then through post-ball wrap-up, know all the details of the backstory for a particular Ball.

When you’re part of the backstory, you get to see how all the pieces of the Ball come together – from selecting an Honorary Chair to designing how the event will look, and everything in between.

And, no matter how beautiful and successful the night of the Ball is, the road to that night is often filled with ups and downs and twists and turns, and all sorts of unexpected things. At times throughout the journey, it can look pretty messy.

But, if you’ve worked on the Ball Committee, or in some capacity behind the scenes, you know that just like a Mardi Gras parade, it somehow all comes together for showtime – every time. And, whatever little niggles go on during the Ball, volunteers, staff, and service providers work hard to make the night look seamless to all those there to enjoy the party.

We’re still here after 30 years, and you continue to join us for a fantastic evening of food, drink, auction, raffle, music, dancing and other entertainment. That says a lot about our behind the scenes efforts!

To all of those who have been part of the backstory over the three decades of the JFAB, thank you for your commitment to making the JFAB, as Executive Director CC Kahr said in her story, “The event of the year!”

Celebrate more than just our JFAB Big 30 by purchasing sponsorships or tickets at JFAB 2018 or, if you can’t attend, by making a donation at DONATE JFAB.

If you have pictures from the early years of the JFAB, 1989 to 2004, please send them to CC Kahr. Likewise, if you have a client or JFAB story to share, please send it to CC Kahr
